The Brain Fund: the first private equity fund dedicated to brain research

Finding effective therapies for neurological and psychiatric diseases requires substantial, regular and long-term investment. To diversify its funding resources and guarantee sustainable financing, Paris Brain Institute now has access to a brand-new initiative: The Brain Fund, the first private equity co-investment fund dedicated to fighting nervous system disorders.

This project was set up in 2022 at the initiative of Eddie Misrahi, President of Apax Partners and member of the Institute’s Campaign Committee, alongside Maurice Lévy, Serge Weinberg and Jean-Charles Decaux. Together, they wanted to create an innovative philanthropic model that combined financial performance with societal impact: 80% of the returns generated by the fund will be donated to Paris Brain Institute to directly support its research work.

Managed by Impact Partners, The Brain Fund has already raised 65% of its €20 million target thanks to support from institutional investors, corporates and family offices. Three initial investments have already been made in European companies with a dual objective: to preserve capital and offer investors a return of between 3% and 6%.

“The Covid crisis somewhat delayed its implementation and the date of its first investment, but as of now we have already raised 65% of our €20 million target and made three investments. For the investor, who retains 20% of the capital gains, it provides assurance of sound financial performance while also making a strong social impact.”
