iCRIN

A bridge between research and treatment
When research becomes hope
With its strong focus on patients, Paris Brain Institute pursues the goal of developing therapeutic solutions tailored to each neurological and psychiatric disorder.
It is therefore crucial to bridge the gap between basic research and clinical research to maximize the chances of a discovery being turned into a treatment.
Organized around key themes exploring all areas involved in tackling disease, the 18 iCRINs (clinical research facilities) are a catalyst for success.
Our challenge
Developing translational research in hospital departments by promoting excellence in clinical research in neurology and psychiatry.
Developing interactions between research and clinical practice
The neurology department at Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital treats 100,000 patients per year, making it the largest patient cohort in Europe. By providing teams with the human and equipment resources they need to conduct their projects, the iCRINs are making this unique opportunity a reality. Today, half of the clinical research projects under way at Paris Brain Institute are being conducted within the iCRINs.
Implementing the Paris Brain Institute “culture” in hospital departments
Paris Brain Institute’s Clinical Investigation Center team coordinates the activities of these 18 iCRINs by organizing the sharing of experiences, the implementation of common procedures, and the reporting of activity indicators. As the driving force behind clinical research, the iCRINs aim to instill a “culture” of scientific evaluation specific to basic research in healthcare services.
“Severe essential tremor associated with Parkinson’s disease becomes more pronounced with age. At a certain point, it is no longer possible to bring a glass to your mouth. As a research-focused clinician, you want to offer a solution. Without the Neurosurgery iCRIN, a true bridge between research and treatment, the very real and tangible hope represented by the Ultrabrain clinical trial would not have existed.”

Target amount
Between €43,000 and €143,000 per iCRIN per year
i.e. €1.5 million annually for five years to fund 18 iCRIN and, more specifically, the clinical research associate roles
