VINCI Autoroutes Foundation makes commitment to road safety

The VINCI Autoroutes Foundation is supporting a Paris Brain Institute research project on the phenomenon of mind-wandering while driving, demonstrating its commitment to improving road safety.

Ever realized that your mind has wandered while driving? Despite technological progress that has improved road safety, each year around 1.3 million people lose their lives and up to 50 million others are seriously injured in road accidents worldwide.

That’s why the VINCI Autoroutes Foundation – which has contributed to advances in our understanding of driving behavior since 2011 – has supported research into mind wandering at the wheel and “local sleep” intrusions in the awake brain.

The two-year study by Thomas Andrillon, researcher at Paris Brain Institute, could help identify a new biomarker (slow waves) able to predict not only when a person is at risk of error, but also the type of error – a promising step forward for preventing hypovigilance at the wheel.

Thank you, VINCI Autoroutes Foundation, for your valuable support!
